Exploring the 2024 KTM EXC Enduro Range: More Than Just Cosmetic Updates

The 2024 KTM EXC Enduro range is arriving instore at Ultimate KTM dealerships but is this truly a monumental leap forward for enduro riding, or just a collection of superficial changes? KTM has promised that the range is a complete upgrade with "95% new components". Does the new range live up to the hype?

What's changed?

  • revolutionary closed-cartridge suspension;
  • refined bodywork; and
  • industry-defining technology

New Suspension

One of the recurring discussions about the EXC models has always revolved around their standard WP suspension. For years, some riders have found it too soft and the shocks unable to handle excessive heat. It's an issue that hasn't gone unnoticed by KTM.

During the model presentation, a significant portion was dedicated to the new suspension system. Detailed explanations covered the revamped mid-valving, the integration of WP Pro Components into standard suspension, improved fork clamps to manage heat, and the challenges posed by the shorter shock absorber.

The real question is whether all these changes make a difference. The answer is a resounding yes. The new suspension system offers a better ride, improved fork performance, shock behavior, and external suspension adjusters that finally work as they should. It provides a noticeable enhancement, boosting confidence in riders, allowing them to maintain control even in challenging conditions, and offering a transformation for those accustomed to the standard suspension.

A noteworthy addition is the manual adjusters that genuinely make a difference to the suspension settings. A simple two-click adjustment makes a noticeable difference. Though the suspension is setup to cater to a wide range of riders meaning there will be some compromises, the base setup is significantly improved.

New Chassis

The 2024 EXC chassis boasts notable improvements that become apparent within minutes of riding. While each model retains its distinct character based on factors such as engine capacity, weight, and two- or four-stroke configuration, they now share a common feel, thanks to lower footrests and a modified handlebar shape.

The new chassis offers greater precision and stability, whether you're cruising on the trail, tackling rocky climbs, or navigating special test sections. It provides a remarkable sense of control, particularly through the feet, making steering and quick direction changes more responsive.

New Enhancements for Riders

The 2024 EXC range incorporates several user-focused improvements. These include better protection from dirt with enhanced front mudguard fins and fork leg protectors, slimmer radiator shrouds, lower side frame protectors, and improved chain guides and rear sprocket protectors.

Moreover, small details such as engine bolt markings, additional torque settings, redesigned foam filters, and more accessible service points on the 4T engine rocker covers contribute to a bike that aligns with riders' preferences for servicing their own machines.

The new, slimmer exhausts are a welcome change, as they reduce vulnerability to damage and make the bikes more manoeuvrable. Furthermore, these exhausts can be easily repaired without compromising mounting points.

The Verdict

In summary, the 2024 KTM EXC Enduro range represents a significant step forward from the previous generation. The new chassis and suspension, improved engines, riding positions, bodywork, and user interactions all contribute to a substantial upgrade.

The new EXCs offer a marked improvement in every aspect of enduro riding. The dedication of KTM's engineers and R&D teams is evident in these bikes, making the previous models seem somewhat outdated by comparison.

The 2024 KTM EXC Enduro range not only lives up to the promises but also raises the bar for what riders can expect from their enduro bikes.
