Tasmania’s iconic Cradle Mountain is a magnetic drawcard for motorcyclists from all around the world, for good reason. The roads to and from the mountain are thrillingly remote and wind through ever-changing nature.
Snapshot

This is Tasmania’s remote and wild West Coast, where you can ride for a hundred kilometres through stunning scenery, without seeing another vehicle.
Ensure you fuel up at every opportunity, as petrol stations are few and far between. And be prepared for four seasons in one day – this is Tassie, after all!

Starting at Strahan (pronounced ‘Strawn’), cruise past the edge of magnificent Macquarie Harbour which, at six times the size of Sydney Harbour, offers an other-worldly peacefulness, if you have time for a boat cruise.

Rocky dolomite mountains will tower above as you wind your way along the scarcely signposted serpentine roads, passing through thick forests and stark lunar landscapes, and alongside pristine lakes and free-flowing rivers.

You will see the lofty mountains in the distance, becoming tantalisingly closer and closer. At Cradle Mountain, kick your stand down and decide if you will get to glittering Dove Lake by tourist bus or, if a birds-eye view is more your style, by helicopter.

The day we were there, it was 28 C and deliciously sunny – unbelievable, given there had been 1.2 metres of snow in the car park just two weeks prior!

Backtrack and then circle around Reece Dam and Corinna, all the while savouring the immense feeling of freedom in your heart. This is why we ride!
Cruise back into Strahan and reward yourself with a well-earned meal and cool beverage.
