Riding Routes: Chain of Ponds > Norton Summit

Endless winding roads in the Adelaide Hills are the perfect place for a quick blat to get your blood pumping.

Snapshot

  • Distance: 58 km
  • Riding time: 1:15 hrs
  • Location: South Australia
  • Route: Tea Tree Gully > Chain of Ponds > Norton Summit > Cherryville
  • Difficulty: Medium

Kick up your stand near Tea Tree Gully and wind your way around Millbrook Reservoir, before turning onto Gorge Road, an Adelaide Hills favourite.

Enticing twisties will lead you past Kangaroo Creek Reservoir and Black Hill Conservation Park, and down to the very outskirts of Adelaide.

Hang a sharp left onto Norton Summit Road and get your revs up as you climb back into the hills. Take a moment to enjoy the magnificent views of Adelaide and St Vincent Gulf in the distance.

Finally, the aptly-named Corkscrew Road will drop you back down the other side.

South Australia: Corkscrew Road (Adelaide Hills)

After passing Kangaroo Creek Reservoir, kick your stand down at Gorge Road, Montacute, alongside the River Torrens / Karrawirra Parri to take a pic of your beautiful machine surrounded by peaceful nature.

Corkscrew Road’s hairpin bends can be challenging for less-experienced riders, especially in the downhill direction.

Cyclists of all skill levels enjoy riding these roads, so take care on blind corners.

At the bottom of Corkscrew Road, you can either swing right onto Gorge Road and ride it in the reverse (always a good option) or turn left to return to Adelaide.
